Gadon Guilty of Misconduct and Perjury, Supreme Court

Estimated read time 2 min read

The Supreme Court En Banc has found disbarred lawyer Larry Gadon guilty of misconduct gross for committing perjury and making accusations based on hearsay. The complaint, initially filed with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), arose from false claims Gadon made in an impeachment complaint against former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno. After investigation, the IBP recommended a two-year suspension, later extended to three years by its Board of Governors. However, the Supreme Court ruled for Gadon’s disbarment. Since Gadon was already disbarred, this penalty will be recorded in his personal file. Additionally, Gadon was fined P150,000 and declared ineligible for judicial clemency.

The Supreme Court found that Gadon violated Canon II, Section 11 of the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability by making unfounded allegations in his impeachment complaint without personal knowledge or authentic records. This misconduct misled the House of Representatives and maliciously intended to harm Sereno’s reputation. In response, Gadon criticized the fine as exorbitant and claimed the IBP resolution was influenced by vendetta. He also suggested that the timing of the Supreme Court’s resolution was suspicious, coinciding with his public criticism of ABS-CBN and plans to reopen its case in the House of Representatives.
