PH Bans UK Cattle – The Department of Agriculture (DA) of Philippines temporarily banned the import of live cattle and meat products from the United Kingdom to prevent the spread of Mad Cow Disease. This decision was made after a case of Mad Cow Disease was confirmed in Scotland. The ban covers live cattle, meat, meat products, bovine processed animal proteins, and cattle semen.

The DA aims to protect consumers and the local livestock industry from the potential risks of Mad Cow Disease. Mad Cow Disease can cause fatal nerve damage in cattle and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans.

The Philippines will allow entry of shipments from the UK that were already in transit, loaded, or accepted unto port, provided that these were slaughtered or produced before April 10, 2024.
