Bamban Mayor Guo, the mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, has been under scrutiny for her alleged involvement in Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGOs) and her unclear background. She has denied being a spy and claims to be a Filipino citizen. Guo has given conflicting statements about her family. During a Senate hearing, she was unsure about her parents’ marital status and initially denied having siblings. Later, she admitted to having a half-brother in China.
Guo also has a history with the land where the POGOs were operating. She divested her shares from Baofu Land Corporation, which owned the compound, before entering politics. However, there are discrepancies in her account of the land purchase. Guo says she bought the property in installments in 2018, while records show she bought it in 2019 for a much lower price.
