Ghost Employee Scandal – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) issued a statement assuring the public that the Monetary Board (MB) will continue to function normally despite the ongoing investigation on two members involved in the ghost employee scandal. The BSP clarified that the 7-member board can still perform its duties with a minimum of 4 members present.
The BSP started investigating the issue in October 2023 after receiving reports that several employees under two MB members were not reporting for work but were still receiving salaries. The investigation identified four ghost employees and their two supervisors. The four employees and one supervisor resigned before the administrative cases were filed against them.
The fate of the two MB members involved in the scandal lies with President Marcos Jr. who has yet to make a decision.
